Hemocompatibility tests evaluate effects on blood and/or blood components by blood-contacting medical devices or materials. Several issues are important in the selection of tests for hemocompatibility of medical devices or biomaterials. In particular, the hemocompatibility depends not only on the materials characteristics, but also on the fluid mechanics of the device, and the coagulatability of the blood.
Material manufacturers need to prove safety and reliability of their products complying to the ISO 10993-4 standard. Due to the increasing importance of biomaterials in our society over the past decades, many traditional biomaterials have been replaced with advanced biomaterials providing biologically inspired design and responsive characteristics. Therefore testing methods have to encompass routine methods with fast and reliable characterization of basic blood-material interactions as well as special methods that analyze specific interactions.
The aim of this webinar is to provide a comprehensive guide on the selection of the most appropriate testing strategy for different types of blood-contacting device. Thanks to our expertise in the field we will showcase different case studies helping manufacturers understand how to approach the most effective testing strategy.
