Introduction

The Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR, Regulation (EU) 528/2012) concerns the placing on the market and use of biocidal products, which are used to protect humans, animals, materials, or articles against harmful organisms such as pests or bacteria, through the action of active substances contained in biocidal products.

This webinar aims to provide an introduction on how human health risk assessment and environmental risk assessment are carried out, according to the principles of the BPR. Emphasis is placed on the direct correlation between effects assessment and exposure modelling, leading to risk characterization.

The presentation will look into effects assessment methodologies, addressing toxicological studies and ecotoxicity testing. A substantial portion of the presentation is dedicated to exposure assessment through different modelling techniques. We will explore mathematical modelling and database models.

These methodologies play a crucial role in quantifying potential exposures, allowing for risk characterization and refinement of risk estimates, including the identification of risk mitigation strategies.
